A day in the Cairngorm

The highest and largest peaks in the British Isles are located here in east-central Scotland. At this time of year, before the snow open all the ski resorts, things are quiet.  I didn’t expect anything more than beautiful scenery.  I’m staying at the Glen Hotel in Newtonmore. I would have to say that this must be the slowest of seasons as after looking into 4 pubs I count zero patrons.

The Glen has a well stocked pub, a very nice room and the full-on breakfast was beyond expectation. And about 10 feet from the bus stop.  In the morning I headed to Aveimore where the folks are waiting for the snow that will open the slopes and bring in the skiers.  Remember tourism is the number one income generator in Scotland.

And I was fortunate to see the steam train pulling out.dscn0667

Before I forget, cheese in the UK,  The Monty’s not withstanding, is both delicious and cheap. For example: 300 grams  of Blue Stilton and one of Brie were only £4 for both or about $3.90 per pound.
