Get on a train to one of the larger communities in Scotland as I attempt to visit the top 50 locations population-wise. Get off and go for a walk, see a bit of local history if there is any, stop for a half pint in a local maybe two if the craic is good, get on the train heading back to Glasgow and repeat. If I want to got to a bar back home in CT I need to get in my car. And to go out for 1 pint is pintless! So this way I can just go from one to another and listen. Respond in as much detail as asked for if asked, but mostly listen and speak when spoken too. Grand! Each a little different but one of the best ways to learn bits about the Scots. Granted a very select group, mostly men all drinkers, but with public transportation or by walking I can see how this is a tonic for so many.
Today I began in Livingston, the seventh largest Scottish city. Another New Town. I walked a mile away from the train station through a wooded area and nice homes in Livingston and back. It had rained but was now sunny and clear. The name as shown on Google as ‘nearest pub” seemed promising. Well a pint is a pint. Livingston. Checked
Next stop is #20, Airdrie. A half mile from the station and quenched. Glad I remembered to look up and saw this piece of art.
Finishing up at Coatbridge Sunnyside which was just that today. After hiking up to the church to se if there was a view and then down through the High Street, heading back to the station I found about a 1/4 mile from train station there’s a strip of 4 locals. When I asked what the occasion for the decorations and was told “Its Thursday”. Can’t deny that.
