I tried new ales & stouts whenever possible and logged the reults in my notebook as they were drunk.

Wadworth 6X – light color, smooth taste but nothing special 3/5

Sharpe’s Doom Bar – like Wadsworth 6x 3/5

Brain’s Dark – a Welsh smooth black ale 5/5

Brain’s Reverand James- not as dark but just as smooth 4.5/5

Brain’s Bitter – it was. 3.5/5

St. Austell Tribute – Cornwall smooth with a slight, pleasant bitter aftertaste 3.5/5

Felinfoel – Welsh, thin nothing special  3/5

Abbot Ale – smooth, light with bitterish aftertaste 3/5

Caledonia Best – Not Belhaven Best but nearly as good, gold, smooth 4/5

Menabrae – Italian?? like Bud 2/5

Belhaven 80 shilling – smooth but not their best – 3.5/5

Belhaven St. Andrews – better than 80 Shilling but again not Best or their Scottish Ale 3.5/5

Guinness Golden Ale – if you drink G, drink stout 3.5/5

Guinness Hop House Lager 13 lighter than stout, better than Golden Ale 4/5

Gogarty’s Irish Stout – house stout at famous Pub very smooth 4.5/5

Tiger – India, below average lager 2.5/5

Vagabond Pale Ale – Brewdog Gluten free and for a GF not bad 3.5/5

Dogma Scotch Ale – Brewdog black, hint of honey 7.4% so be careful 4.5/5

B-Side Milk Stout – Brewdog delightful first sip, thick, chocolate 4.7% good after food 5/5

Guinness Stout – on draught, in Dublin doesn’t get much better 5/5

I used to have a keg of Belhaven Scottish Ale in my former house, so that is the benchmark.  I don’t think there is a better ale than this one.
