Bath Abby

by WBlackwell on November 12, 2019

Cody McVeigh, my nephew, will be staying at my place whilst I’m gone.  He had moved back to his folk’s house last spring and jumped at the chance to have “his own place” for a few months. Since I’m about 40 minutes closer to his office where he is a recruiter for the CT Army National Guard, & I don’t mind the security, he jumped at the chance. He  kindly offered to give me a lift to Foxwoods where I picked up the bus to Boston.

I’m very anxious since I have no idea how the UK Border Agency will act considering the last 2 times entering from Belfast & LWG took 3.5 & 4 hours each.

No agent, no sitting in the dock, no bag search just scan my passport, pick up bag & welcome to the UK!! Yes.

And a train stop with such a Pythonesque name proves it

When I got to my inn at Parade Park I spotted this plaque.

I could see the Bath Abby from the front door so after signing in it was time to start wandering.

A parish Church of England, founded in the 7th century, rebuilt in the 12th & 16th.  A listed building, it is noted for it’s fan vaulted ceiling and the Jacob’s Ladder carved on the front

A grand example of flying buttresses which, by providing the support usually found in the walls, allow for much larger windows and therefore aa much brighter church interior.

An Monday had been Remembrance Day
