This is embarrassing. I can’t recall how many times I’ve been in Edinburgh but in the last year that has to be over 6X and I did not know there is another castle, still in OK nick, in the Capital!
But maybe it’s just not marketed properly? For example, the car park is too small for buses but the land surrounding the castle is, I was told, owned by the Craigmillar Community Council. Would it not make sense to build a bus park and charge the tour companies a parking fee and increase traffic at this fine historical site?
A little over 2 mile walk had me at this fine castle.
I suddenly realized I was the only person in the castle once the custodian had finished sweeping the many circular staircases. The only other time I have ever been the only visitor to a castle was on Bute when I had Rothesay to myself.
Two yews trees in the courtyard were a nice, old touch.
Arthur’s Seat and Salisbury Crag from the tower
One can still make out the “P” shape where the pond had once stood
The walk back to the city around Holyrood Park helped to add to a 7.5 m day
By zooming in you can just see figures on Arthur’s Seat over Pollock Hall at he Uni.
