I’m a big fan of Nerine Skinner so when I saw she was doing shows at th Fringe Festival, I got a ticket

Today I got into a chat with a couple this afternoon from Australia at Deacan Brodie’s on the Royal Mile. We spoke for over an hour and the craic was very good.

Later I spoke with another couple at the Scotsman’s Lounge. Craic wasn’t as good. He was sentient we were on the same page but he stepped away as his wife got worked up. I got the feeling he had done that before. She supports both Farage and Trump, explaining to me that neither ever lied, and put opinion over facts whilst denying she was racist. You can’t support those two without subscribing to their racism. When I suggested maybe xenophobic was a better description (Muslims will turn the U.K. into a Muslim state) she didn’t know what the word means. I didn’t hold back, but didn’t use any swear words. Another woman of pension age at the adjoining table was smiling at me as I pointed out to the Reform supporter she was being stupid. As I left the table she pulled me aside to say that the majority of Scots were not like the xenophobe and thanked me for not holding back.
