I now know what John Melloncamp was singing about. Trainers (sneaker in the States) are usually neon pink, yellow, lime green or multi unless worn by someone actually running. Other shoes are frequently closed by velcro and if dress, pointed. Pants whether dress or jeans are tight. Don’t know how they get the feet thru and the legs inside the pants seem to be without muscle. Just sticks. And a scarf. It was 57 – 64F (14 – 18c) when I was in Paris and they all wore scarfs. Puffy jackets are in style too. And of course the fags. Not everyone, of course, but enough that one can’t help but notice.
And there is an attitude. I began to wear an American flag on my collar so they would know I’m not a Brit. They don’t seem to like Brits. Forgetting the fact that William the Conqueror was a Norman and that the British bailed them out twice last century, they don’t seem to like them. And very few seem to speak English, even in th international air terminal, hotels, train stations and shops. Since I believe English is taught in schools I fear it is more like they can speak English but choose not to.
Anyway, so very glad to be back in Britain!!
