54 steps from the bus to the Monorene Guest House is without a doubt the closest to public transport I’ve ever stayed! Dropped my kit and wandered the town in the rain.
I stopped in at the SNP office of Calum Kerr. He wasn’t in but I had a nice, informative chat with volunteers. Then I looked for a food shop and pub passing by this war memorial.
In 2015 a new rail line between Edinburgh & Tweedbank opened after many years of disuse. I feel this will be a boon to the area. I guy I met said that he works in Edinburgh and can get there in an hour but his rent was halved when he moved to Gala. The new building will hold the The Great Tapestry of Scotland which is a series of embroidered cloths (rather than a woven tapestry) made up of 160 hand stitched panels, depicting aspects of the history of Scotland from 8500 BC until its launch in 2013. It is expected to draw some 50,000 visitors a year adding a great lift to the local economy. I had to ask since the building was not something average
Never took an elevator to a food store but the huge Tesco is over a parking garage.
