Larne to Sandhead

by WBlackwell on April 28, 2015

Awoke to snow on the hills above the village of Larne. A five minute walk to the ferry terminal was a good start, but when I was told my ferry had been canceled due to weather and that the next one was at 4:30, things looked sour. There was a cargo ferry at noon but it didn’t take passengers, just vans & trucks.

Whilst the terminal was nice, it was not a place to spend the next 6 hours so I decided to head out to the que and see if I could bum a ride.  Paul was a flower grafter and plant wholesaler heading from NI to Holland for the upcoming birth of his new baby and, once I had stated my predicament told me to jump into his van.  A terminal official told Paul he had no problem with my scheme so after paying £3 more than the 8 hour trip from Liverpool, I had my ride.

WE had a good conversation for the next couple of hours and he dropped me off at his turn off and I began hoofing it to Stranraer.  One of the wheels on my rolling duffle lost it’s outer layer, the walk was long and to make things more exciting the rain turned to hail.  The first hotel/pub I came upon offered me a hair dryer and called a cab. All in all not a bad day.
