Train back from Trevor Rd to Liverpool, Lime Street Station and out for a wander. Nasty day. Started bright and sunny but by the time I had gotten to the city it was 42F/5.5C with a cloudy, slightly damp and windy day. Too bad as that kind of weather makes most places look less than their best.
I think Liverpool has it’s best days behind her yet got the feeling that this city wasn’t about to rollover and die but rather was in the process of rebuilding itself and I believe that much better days are ahead. And that is grand as Liverpool was once a great place. Liverpool has the advantage of waterfront (can you say “ferry cross the Mercy”?) and cities with waterfront & will have a leg up on inland cities when it comes to resurgence.
Albert Dock is an area of revitalization. There is more to Liverpool than The Beatles, although that connection has been tapped to the max. Paul’s house, John’s, the Cavern Club, and The Beatle Story all rig the tourists. Being old enough to have my own ‘Beatle Story’ and all their music, I decided my time was better spent in other venues.
My first visit was the Tate. Frankly, I don’t get modern art. A 6 foot square of black & silver 1 foot squares on the floor. Looked like a bathroom floor. A bundle wrapped in black cloth tied with string. If they allowed photos, I wouldn’t have bothered. But that’s just me.
The Liverpool Museum, on the other hand, I understood.
The waterfront is pretty cool.
