The tide was out when I got up so after a breakfast of smoked haddock and poached egg I decided to walk it off.
There is a pier opposite the harbor front that gives some nice angles to photograph and occasionally a place to spot otters although at low tide they have moved further out into the Loch. After the pier I walked back along the front.
And then up behind the harbor where a path gives nice views too
I saw a woman in a boat by the dock waving but no one seemed to wave back. Then I noticed she bore a strong resemblance to Mary one of the Plockton Inn owners so I waved. She indicated I should come so I hot-footed it down the dock. She and her brother Kenny were heading out for a couple hours onto Loch Carron (were, after a kayak mishap I had swum in February 2007 on my first visit to Plockton). For the next 2 hours Kenny took us all over the long sea loch explaining some points of interest including some close up views of salmon farms with large ones leaping at the noise of the boat.
Duke of Wellington at rest is the local name of the mountain in left photo. On the right there is a large quarry where once a huge hole had been dug to build oil rigs. I think it once had the largest single room in the world.
Mary’s house is the pink one.
Duncraig and the pier where I had begun the day
And the back of the island where we had built the New Years’ bonfire
The music session is at the Plockton Hotel tonight.
