The Belhaven sign is always welcome. I’ve been in the Trades House before. Good, large pub bit too loud and too many TVs.
No crowd so 1/2 pint visit.
The 1/2 pint plan here resulted in 3 pints from new mates. Lots of laughs.
And then this. John Justice’s son, Thomas, manages what I refer to as the “Happiest Pub in Dundee!” The Pillar was a nice pub with lot of elderly folks like myself, not The Bush. As the place filled up it was about 50-50 men and women and jammed. But what I noticed as I observed the show was how happy everyone looked. This was reinforced on subsequent visits. I’ll pay for the flag if it doesn’t work, Tom.
Apparently the place had seen better days when John bought it, and seeing the photos the contractor showed me, it was a ton of work. But the result is grand.
Bruin, the polar bear, was on an exhibition tour when he escaped for a few hours in Dundee. He didn’t actually chase anyone like the statue depicted but he did terrify many. Distracted by his first view of a mirror, he was captured. The city has some really great and many fun statues.
Rail strike so another day or two in the city. Sleeperz was able to accommodate
