Temp today was 20c or 68f with not a cloud in the sky. Again! My distance tracker was having trouble inside buildings but I probably logged 10 miles on foot. The weather was just too nice. One of the greatest signs I’ve seen on London street is:
Or Left as needed. A very handy reminder for a Yank. I could not imagine driving in London. So many vehicles going so fast the wrong way. I took the Underground or tube, to my starting point this morning. One of the security people gave me instruction on the purchase and use of the Oyster card which give a break when using the subway. An Easy-pass so to speak. The first thing I noticed were the escalators.
The photo does not do justice to their steepness. A quick half mile or so & I arrived at the British Museum. I like museums and this one is spectacular. Older, with more room than the Scottish National Museum, this has such items as Elgin Marbles taken from the Greek Parthenon, the Rosetta Stone and so much more. The building itself is a wonder.
Inside too. Like the main foyer.
And the photo of the King’s Library is only a half of it.
I won’t bore you with all there was to see in this one room alone.
All organized into themes like Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece & Rome, Asia, Europe and Middle East with many special themes. Whilst I took a pile of photos, I’ll only share some of my favorites.
The Elgin Marbles wrapped around the upper part of the Parthenon. The second two are close-ups of a couple sections.
I doubt if I have to explain the significance of the Rosetta Stone.
The following photo shows a huge pair if Assyrian Lamassus or guarding beasts.

And I never knew Napoleon was so handsome. Like Richard Burton.
For those who have read “Sharpe’s Eagle”, here is one. Captured during the Napoleonic wars.
This only a taste. If you want more, go.
