I decided that this time I’d go without a car and see how that worked out. I’ve had such luck with a car in the past (one mirror, 2 hubcaps & a flat to change) that public transport seemed like worth trying. What I haven’t changed is the first day travel marathon. While not an all day drive from London to Edinburgh or Glasgow to Plockton, today was a bit much. Landing in Glasgow, I jumped the rail on the West Highland Line to Oban. Oh my! Now that is some serious scenery. The trains was clean, quiet, quick and most enjoyable. Since my arrival to Glasgow was early, I arrived in Oban just about mid-day. From there a ferry to Mull, a bus to Tobemory, a ferry to Kilchoan, a lift from a fellow passenger and I was having a Best on the deck of the hotel by dinner.
Tobermory has to be one of the most colorful shorefronts in all of the UK. I’ve tried to find out whether, when picked as the location for the children’s show Balamory, it was picked due to the brightly colored houses or were they painted for the show?

The ferry from Oban disembarks in Craignure on Mull. From there I hopped a bus to Tobermory. As luck would have it, the bus happened to stop directly in front of a distillery, allowing me to remove one item from my to-do list!
