I mentioned I hit a wall so I went bar hopping. Best cure, right? And a very easy thing to do in Newcastle which is renowned for pubs although Newcastle Brown Ale is no longer made in the city FYI. But when I headed north for a 6 hour train journey on Friday, the day went south. A switching problem near Dunbar, home to Belhaven Scottish Ale, the best beer in the known world that I used to pour from my in-home kegger, caused things to fall apart. A 5 hour delay including 50 minutes standing on the train next to a hen-party whilst we waited for the engineer who too was held up by the problem had his arrival delayed. Then, four hours prior to check in my hotel canceled my stay. Then my phone died meaning finding a new place to spend the night was on the line. I was not looking forward to adding a “living rough”post.! Neil, who I was sitting with on the train, lived in my destination town of Dingwall and suggested a place and loaned me his phone. They had 1 night still open! Neil then offered to drive me to the property from Inverness as it was on his way. Once there I was able to find a nearby inn for Sat. and later will bus there. Friday night’s hotel had Sun & Mon open so I’ll return as the place is nice and peeps were welcoming. Day started rubbish, I didn’t panic. Day finished OK. Whew!
Things just got better. The Novar Arms Hotel had a cancel so I get to stay here for 4 days and quickly canceled the other property reservation. So much better than schlepping my kit back and forth so now I can go exploring fueled by a full-on Scottish Breakfast!
