Pembroke Castle &c

by WBlackwell on November 17, 2019

Alan & I started the day at Milford Marina.  I could see a few nights in one of these

How many never leave the marina?

The red one looks like an old lifesaving vessel now converted to private use

And I just liked the lines of this one.

Martha’s Vineyard?? Full stop. Well it turns out that many a whaling ship delivered the oil her back in the day.

Pembroke Castle is the real deal. 100 steps to the top of the tower

Grand views of Pembrokeshire

Giant map of Wales with all major castles and abbyes shown

Some guides are really into their jobs.  This one knew her stuff but I kept ducking off for side discoveries.

The holes in the walls are not by accident, they are where beams would have supported higher floors.  The highest were the living quarters and the lowest was the kitchen.  This is the standard format.

This cavern (57 steps below ground) was a food/supplies locker.

Not much left of Carew Castle and the dog was exhausted so we didn’t bother.
