Salisbury, a city saved by God

Well, at least by a place of worship.  Salsbury Cathedral was built between 1220-1320 originally a Catholic church it became Anglican after Henry VIII started the Church of England.

This city is very old.  Amazingly old.  Most cities of this age have very few really old buildings left but during WWII, the German pilots were under strict orders to not bomb the city.  Not out of cultural or hunanitarian reasons but because the top of the spire stands 123 m or 404 ft and was used by th Luftwaffe as  a landmark from which they could navigate to their targets.

And in addition to all the city has to offer, it houses the best copy of the four remaining Magna Carta left. Signed in 1215 by King John it was basically a charter establishing that no one, not even the king was above the law.  Thomas Jefferson used it as a reference when he wrote the US Declaration of Independence. No pictures and it was in Latin so Google to read the translation.

And the Cathederal houses the oldest working clock in the world.  Built around 1386, it has no face or hands but ring the bells on the hour.  When I heard the bells I checked my phone to see that it was exactly 2PM!
