Saltburn & Redcar

by WBlackwell on July 25, 2024

At this time of year the butterfly bushes, which are ubiquitous, are in full flower. They have been credited with doing so much damage to some building the only remedy was to tear them down.  I’ve yet to see a butterfly though. And there are white morning glory type flowers everywhere too

My friend, Mick Grey, lives in the Scottish Highlands but was born in Saltburn and suggested that since it was a short train hop from Middlesburgh that I should check it out.  Walking down a street of Victoria age buildings I rounded the corner and saw this: Hunt Cliff!

The former ‘Grand Hotel’

Stunningly beautiful beaches and coastal promenade.

I had gone to Saltburn in the AM anticipating afternoon showers so no pubs open.  After Redcar I returned to Saltburn and, Based on Mick’s suggestion, sought out The Alexandra Vaults known locally as the Back Alex.
