St. Andrews

Home of the 3rd oldest university in the English-speaking world, St. Andrews is also know for the sport best described by the great, late Robin Williams.  Golf

Check out the skies all in a few hours. This is Scotland remember.

West Port is one of the few surviving Scottish city gates dating from 1589

Blackfriers Chapel was the seen of many violent struggles between Catholics and Protestants in the late 1500’s

There is the remains of both a castle

and St Andrews Cathedral, one of the most important of the medieval time.

East Port

I ducked into the Trinity Church porch to get out of an outburst of rain only to find this from John Knox:

And across the street

Some Sundays the Old Course is closed to golfers and open to the public to walk but there was an invitational going on this day so no public.

This section of the Uni was interesting. This was once a catholic church prior to the Reformation.  The give-away is the empty nooks in the flying buttresses that once had long destroyed statues.

One of the most expensive spots I’ve seen in Scotland as it caters to golfers who spend as needed to fulfill a life dream at the home of golf.
