St Paul’s Cathedral

by WBlackwell on April 24, 2015

Back to Rutherford’s ‘London’.  Dedicated to the apostle, the first church on the site was in 604 and after the Great Fire, Christopher Wren built a masterpiece. Inside & out it is a wonder how it could be built without modern equipment.  The dome caused a bit of controversy at the time as some felt it too Papist.  There are no photos allowed inside as it is a working place of worship so go online to see it’s magnificence. The tomb of Lord Kitchener is on the left immediately upon entering as is a small chapel open to all for prayer & meditation.  To enter the rest of the Cathedral there is a fee to offset the £7 million it takes each year to maintain. There is no state funding.
