Sorted! Ardnamurchan. Dunnet Head. Lowestoft. And now, The Lizard. I have now stood on the 4 most extreme points on the island of Britain. Not many can say that and many would say: Why bother? It sort of just happened. Another stellar day.
I switch buses in Helston and saw this wonderful monument/ cemetery gate. I didn’t have time to check it before the next bus but I did spot a pub for the return. Look at that road. How does a bus or lorry driver do it? In Mousehole a few miles away I remember streets so tight that the buses were all half normal length to be able to navigate the turns on the streets.
As a destination The Lizard is just another piece of dramatic seacoast. There are many, many shore vistas that equal and exceed it but that is not the point. It is the most southernly post on the mainland and so that in it self, makes it a destination. Today could not have been better.
And this house! Nothing to see but France.
It’s about a mile walk from the point to the bus drop off stall so having to wait for the next bus and being parched a couple locals had to be tried out. The winner was? me! they were all great but the next were 1/2 pints as I knew I had some ground to cover and many more beers to try
Again, no thanks.
OK, This place is brilliant. You smell the peat fire before the door opens. The folks were as warm as the room.
It seems regulars can keep their own mug.
And the have been making beers for some 500 years. One swig and I knew why. As good, if not better than Belhaven Scottish Ale, my personal favorite. My friend Andy Will makes a pretty good brew himself at Plockton Ale and told me that when he was a young tar in Portsmouth he and his mates would make the pilgrimage it was so good.
