Blackpool? Folkestone? Great Yarmouth? Scarborough? Morecambe? Nope, this time I’m in Torquay on the “English Riviera”. Temps are about 8c. Towns in this part of England have names like Falmouth, Taunton, Plymouth, Wareham, Dorchester & Weymouth must have copied Massachusetts! In Victoria’s time (I haven’t found her statue but I’m sure there is one) England discovered the beach. Not just a place to fish from or launch a boat but a place to relax with a hankie hat, picnic & stroll along a new promenade or take the children to an arcade and maybe, for the very brave, get wet above the knee. They all look the same in a different sort of way. Palm trees are a must. And if the EU paid the bill there would be a new foot bridge. Old pavilions turned into malls or cultural centers. Here for 4 nights to see nothing and do less. Yeah right!
My personal circumnavigation of Great Britain continues. A well protect marina.
Gotta Be EU €. Derry, Holyhead I’ve seen some spectacular foot bridges
This woman is so mysterious
The bike is amazing. I had to strike up a conversation. Apparently there is a bike bath along the Rhine(?) and he went with his son.
The worst thing about traveling in the off season is the smaller venues are often closed such as this old timey village
But the seacoast is never closed and often seriously dramatic.
