One of the highest points in Edinburgh is Nelson’s Monument shaped like a telescope on Calton Hill. On a clear day the views are great and today was very clear again. The views from anywhere on this hill are pretty good but the 140 or so steps (half the number of the Great Fire Monument in London) later were worth it.
Arthur’s Seat and Salisbury Crag
Holyrood Palace, Parliament and Our Dynamic Earth center, one of the few places of note in the city I haven’t yet been in.
A long view of Princes Street
The Observatory with the Firth of Forth behind it and National Monument at the base of Nelson’s and a monument to philosopher Dugald Stewart
The Castle and the rest of the city
I passed an interesting cemetery coming down from Calton Hill. The most prominent tomb is that of David Hume. There is also a memorial honoring Scottish-American soldiers
