A nice train ride from Great Yarmouth through some beautiful countryside brought me to Cambridge, a city on the River Cam in eastern England, home to the prestigious University of Cambridge, dating to 1209. University colleges include King’s, famed for its choir and towering Gothic chapel, as well as Trinity, founded by Henry VIII, and St John’s, with its 16th-century Great Gate.
My B&B was about 1/2 miles from the rail station and next door to a Co-op which is handy. The day being early I headed for some park areas I had seen on my map and to get an overview.
The Annual Strawberry Fair is as close to a hippie fest as I’ve seen in years, albeit with out the aroma one might find in the States but that probably changes late in the evening. Food, tat, music!
Canals. One of these wanders I have to take a trip on a canal boat.
And try my hand on a punt. This is officially called the Wooden Bridge and the original one the Cam dates from 1749 but due to the tangents and arches of the bridge’s design it is referred to as The Mathematical Bridge
Old purpose built city has amazing buildings.
The students were still in session taking exams or whatever they do in the British system. Many must have completed all they needed to complete judging by the number walking about with bottle of some type of champagne.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, generally known as The Round Church, dates from 1130.
And then this:
About 10:35. Look for the blue lights.
