Wilberforce House

by WBlackwell on March 21, 2019

William Wilberforce (1759–1833) is known as the man most responsible for the abolition of slavery in the UK. His birthplace in Hull is dedicated to his mission and includes some artifacts of that hideous trade.

And I like window seats

Heading back into city center I saw this tribute to Amy Johnson a British Earhart

Amy Johnson CBE (born 1 July 1903, Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, Eng.— vanished 5 January 1941, over the Thames estuary), was a pioneering female pilot who came to prominence through her endeavour to set a record for a solo flight from London to Darwin, Australia.

Flying solo or with her husband, Jim Mollison, she set many long-distance records during the 1930s. She flew in the Second World War as a part of the Air Transport Auxiliary and died during a ferry flight.

The Maritime Museum is on the right.  The plaza is a kid magnet
