Lerwick, Shetland, Scotland

June 3, 2017

After a week in Aberdeen it was time to move on.  So while waiting for the ferry, I took a stroll over the river Dee.  It’s June and UK Cancer Research month so, as a survivor, I’m trying to do my 10,000 steps/day average. Once onboard the ferry I dropped my bag in the pod […]

Peterhead

May 31, 2017

What began as a simple bucket list check-off turned out to be a brilliant wander! The bus trip from Aberdeen is around 1 1/2 and only £12.60/$16 return and the weather was grand. We past a Trump Golf Course on the way but I didn’t see anything to photograph. This is the one where Michel […]

Compass Completed

May 31, 2017

When at Dunnet Head on the Winter Solstice last December (6 hrs, 13 minutes between sunrise and sunset) I realized I had only one more extreme point to visit to have been the full compass of Scotland’s farthest points. Mull of Galloway, the farthest south And the farthest north Now I’ve completed the set with […]

University of Aberdeen

May 30, 2017

With my feet feeling strong and the day very comfortable I decided to walk the 2-3 miles to the Uni. They have a Zoologic Museum and a wee Botanic garden there.  And since Aberdeen is a very walkable and relatively flat (for Scotland) city, off I went. The Uni is in an older, quiet part […]

The Castlegate area of Aberdeen

May 29, 2017

What no castle? The closest is probably near Stonehaven which I visited on a trip in 2015. But I found a wee old museum and a great one. The one that once stood here has been long gone. The Tolbooth Museum is one of Aberdeen’s oldest buildings dating in parts, from the mid- 17th century […]

Solidarity

May 29, 2017

There are 31 towns in the USA named “Manchester”. My parents & I moved to the one in CT in 1954 and they were there over 60 years and my 4 siblings were all born there so, as I said after the terror attack in the original one, I felt a strong connection even though […]

Maritime Museum

May 29, 2017

Before I get to the museum, this is the flat I’m staying in in Aberdeen.  $385 for 7 days. I don’t want anyone to get the mistaken idea that I’m rolling in the dough or anything. I wasn’t when I owned RiverView and much less so now. Since a room is only a place to […]

Aberdeen

May 28, 2017

I want to take time to talk about  how not having a specific return date liberates a holiday or trip or visit or research program, or whatever it is I’m currently doing.  Usually I’m trying to cram as much into a day as I can and then moving on to the next jammed filled day. […]

Sparkyly Day on Bute

May 26, 2017

It was a perfect day to revisit Bute and just walk so that is what I did.  The ferry runs frequently from Wemyss Bay so it’s easy and,  although it was very misty at the onset, it was apparent that it would soon burn off. That’s the other ferry heading back to Wemyss Bay. There […]

Rubbish WiFi

May 24, 2017

No Wifi in the caravan and at the clubhouse it was slow as a slug.  Took hours to download half the pics. Waiting for the Greater Cumbrae ferry in Largs I spotted this: No way to show scale, but this jellyfish was about 20″/50cm plus at the widest point! And about twice as long.
