Frankfurt was a screw up. I had planned to go to Gdansk and noted the train transferred at Frankfurt Ord, so I booked a room in Frankfurt only to find out that Ord is the name of a a rail station and Frankfurt Germany was in the opposite direction. Glad I hadn’t booked anything in Gdansk!
The Centro Hotel was really close to the train station and was a good value room, clean & with a good bed and ensuite. And a mini fridge which is always appreciated.
I decided that since it was a nice day with heavy ran in the forecast I’d get a birds eye view of the city. And entering the building I found €10 on the steps which was double the cost of going up the 54 floors to the observation tower.
Lots of Smart Cars and other wee vehicles here. The Smarts are often parked perpendicular to the curb rather than parallel since they don’t stick out. This one person vehicle seems almost scary small and in a crowded city UPS still delivers. Brown goes on a trike.
And Christmas Markets are big here in Germany
Frankfurt Cathedral, or Dom. From 1356 onwards, emperors of the Holy Roman Empire were elected in this collegiate church as kings in Germany, and from 1562 to 1792, emperors-elect were crowned here. This was the first time I’ve sat for a Mass in German. Not hard to follow as the steps are the same even if you don’t understand the words. Just like in my youth when I didn’t understand the Latin. Obviously one should never take photos in any church whatever the denomination is if there is a service going on. After is OK. So much plainer than most cathedrals
The main river in Frankfurt is actually the Main River. With a length of 527 kilometres (327 mi), it is the longest right tributary of the Rhine. It is also the longest river lying entirely in Germany. As I walked the gardens along it I can only imagine what these trees, which are obviously pruned annually and I do not know the species, must be like when in leaf. A nice tunnel effect.
.
I don’t think I’ve never seen geese like these before.
And this looks very much like a banana tree. Notice how the roots are protected as I imagine it gets quite cold here in the winter.
The cylindrical in the center is where I took the aerial photos from.

Hello William,
Denise and Robert from Mancos, Colorado writing (finally)! We met in the Centro Hotel at breakfast. You spoke to us as Robert had a Colorado hat on LOL!!
Cleaning out stuff to move and found your card. I will read more soon. Very nice photos of Frankfurt. I took many more of the Christmas market (Weihnachtsmarkt), at night too!
Visited my cousin in Kefenrod (Budingen), about an hour from Frankfurt am Main (airport), northeast. Fulda is the biggest town near there. I’ve been there Dec. 2015, June 2016, Dec. 2017, but not going to make it this year….well, maybe Jan/Feb 2019?
Continued good travels!!
Best, Denise
