My muse has a good eye for style and was as delighted as I with what we found. Knowing that Mackintosh like to build with the brown sandstone of Scotland and his interest in towers we were gobsmacked by what we found after a convoluted but pleasant ride.
We were shocked because this is the “Not Hill House” as we called it.
Because this is “Hill House”
Designed for the publisher Walter Blackie between 1902-04. Surrounded by gardens which we were able to wander through as the rain held off until we were inside, my only disappointment is yours dear reader. No pictures were allowed to be taken inside. It is widely acclaimed as his best domestic work and I can only hope you go online to see what I was not allowed to share with you.
