My friend Mike Garrity called to see if I wanted to visit NYC for the 20th Tartan Day Parade, a celebration of all things Scottish (although without any Belhaven available even with them being a sponsor or any haggis) centered around April 6, the day that commemorates the 1320 signing of the Declaration of Arbroath, Scotland’s first grasp of independence. Since Mike is a Mick, I was happily surprised by his suggestion. So I drove to New Milford, CT from Manchester, CT for a few days with my old roomie.
We drove to the train station and then rode the rails to Penn Station.
Being early we went for a wee wander to Central Park.
I guess a SMART car fits in a city!?!
The detail on this building stopped me in my tracks.
Noting where the end of the parade route would be, we found a marble-benched water fountain to perch to watch without having to stand the whole time.
A very exuberant KT Tunstall was this years Grand Marshall, the first woman to hold that honor.
Up Helly Aa! Gotta have a few vikings
We went through Rockefeller Plaza on the way back to the station.
